Safe Streets for Kids

Walking environments safe enough for kids are almost always safer for everyone. In partnership with organizations throughout Los Angeles, like Youth Policy Institute and First 5 LA, Los Angeles Walks trains and mobilizes parents of young children to advocate for safer streets for our most vulnerable.

LA Walks works with parents to increase awareness of street design, determine common walking routes, identify hazards, and advocate for solutions that create a built environment where children and families thrive. Beginning with dialogue centered on personal walking experiences to and from school, parents determine what they hope to change and strategize how to change it.

Parents who walk their kids to and from school every day are the eyes and ears of the school community. We hope to help parents recognize the power and agency they hold in shaping and creating safer streets.
